I’ve been inspired by brutalist architecture for many years now. One of the first things that comes to mind when someone refers to brutalist design is concrete. There were a number of goals I had in mind when designing this desk:
- visually heavy, but not weigh as much as it looked like it would
- incorporate concrete
- have storage, but look simple and minimal
At first glance, it looks like the desk top is resting on two large concrete blocks, but on closer inspection the interior of the legs is a hollowed out wooden box with a shelf. The simplest idea, but it took quite a while to figure out how to make it all work.
